A6 – I now have more confidence in what I am doing on this assignment. I am somewhat confused by the lack of Timed tasks so far, after all the time is ticking and I cant wait to get going.
The presentation is now looking ok, with the recent addition of my latest two fonts, Antique Olive and Mistral. However I am having great difficulty in finding any useful information on my typographer. It seems that the whole internet is trying to sell me a type face and not give me any useful information.
A5 – I am really surprised at how fast the website has come along. Having finished the layout this week, inserting all of the content and images leaves just my feedback form and user testing to complete.
So far I am really pleased with the design (www.garybenn.co.uk/A5) so far it is pixel perfect (except where type is concerned), with only two changes, which are invisible (just changed how this have been created).
I am looking forward to having a good look at other people’s websites for the user testing. Although I am not looking forward to the feedback I receive. Whilst I know it will only help me, if it means I have to change something which doesn’t match my design it will really annoy me.
I didn’t go to the Design Mechanics today as I attended last time and gave someone else the opportunity. From what the people who did go they learnt a lot. I would have liked to have gone. It would have been really interesting to see how people in the actual industry are working.

Having looked at your site, I like the simplicity of the design- very efficient for the target audience.
I would say, however, that I think your home page needs some kind of introduction. If I didn't know what the purpose of the site was, then the lack of introduction might confuse me. One thing I think Jakob Neilson is good at is content- he says 'short intros can increase usability by explaining the remaining content's purpose'. You can read the article here.
Another thing is the nav bar, which seems to change size between the home page and the content page. I think the nav bar needs to be consistent.
Hi Tom,
Thanks for your comment. I'll have to ask Steve what would happen if I put an introduction in (as its not in my web plan).
What browser are you using when u see the navigation change size. I havent noticed it.
Thanks
Gary
update: I see the error. In IE! The Cell is collapsing. I which is forcing the text onto another line. I will have to put a spacer image in there.
Thanks again for flagging it up!
I really think you should introduce some sort of colour into your design; personally I find it abit bland on the eye and hard to access the information because of this. I also have the opinion that your target audience would too, given that it doesn't really have a modern feel.
The modern feel not being there might have the effect of some people not thinking the information is up to date or correct.
I suggest being a bit more subtle and have more of an attention to detail when it comes to the design might rectify this thing.
After testing several links everything seems to work fine. The simple white background is the best solution that improves legibility and keeps the size of the site down to a minimum.
Even when you increase the font size to the largest setting the overall appearance of the site still looks aesthetically pleasing.
Well done!
