Below is a scan of a layout idea for my A3 content pages. Ill have to make a final, digital screen design VERY shortly and I would like as much feedback as possible please.
I wanted to make it simple due to the target audience. I kind of took some inspiration from apple inc.
When i have a few more comments im going to do a VERY quick mock up in photoshop and post it again. I can get more detail if i do a computerized version without spending all the time in InDesign doing the real thing and having to change it.
Do you have any constructive criticism for me sue?
If there was anything that I would change on there, personally it would be the order of your navigation at the top. Your 'home' tag is in the middle of the others which wouldn't appear logical to the target audience.
Other than that, the layout is clean, pictures are big enough, you're using alignment and contrast.
Thankyou, What i was thinking when i put the home link in the middle... i was going to make that button bigger than the others (aprox double the size).
I just thought if its in the middle people's eyes are drawn to the middle of the screen. And its there right in front of them, bigger and just waiting to be clicked!
Thankyou for your feedback, I will see what others have to say - not that i don't trust you of course!
Its looking pretty good for a draft. I agree with Sue about the 'Home' link being moved; there are certain ‘standards’ that generally speaking, we need to comply to.
The 'Home' page being either the first link on the left and / or the first like at the top of the list is one such compliance. Think usability; as you have said the site is designed around the 'Silver Surfer' target audience.
Getting the audience used to common navigation can only be a good thing.
I am very interested to see the final draft though.
I would however, agree with Sue about the order of the links. Furthermore, I reckon it need a bit more colour in the basic design- not sure if this was going to be added later or not?
Secondly, is the alignment of the "Data Communication and Networking" and "Programming Languages" on the left purposefully off? I'm not sure it looks right as it is.
Other than that, I really like the design, particularly the pattern used as the header.
I have to agree with everyone else, about the order of the links, and what Tom said about the alignment of the “Data Communications” and the “Programming Languages”.
Also, would it be better to separate the links on the left from the main website content? Personally I think its fine as it is, but just for the target audience’s sake.
I have just started an Interactive Media HND (Web Design) and will be using this blog as my Personal Learning Journal. It will be used to record my progress, ideas and also to recieve feedback from other members of the group.

Very nice screen design. Simple but gets the message across. Very easy on the eye!

Pretty good overall.

I really do like the design though.
I have now posted a newer version if you'd like to comment on the revisions.
Thanks
